Overview
Client: 3 G’s Plumbing & Heating
Industry: Plumbing & Heating
Fleet Type: Service van
Project Type: Custom fleet van upfitting
Approximate Project Scope: ~$8,000 custom upfit
Services Provided: Walkthrough partition, heated shelving, tank storage, flooring, ladder rack, interior door protection
3 G’s Plumbing & Heating partnered with Micorp Custom Auto & Truck to configure a plumbing service van designed around how the vehicle would be used in the field. Rather than applying a standard van package, the project focused on building a mobile workspace that supported plumbing and heating equipment, interior access, and daily service workflows
The Challenge
Plumbing and heating service vans operate as mobile workspaces, carrying specialized tools, tanks, and materials that must be safely stored and easily accessed throughout the day.
For 3 G’s Plumbing & Heating, a standard van layout presented several limitations:
- Limited interior access between the cab and cargo area
- The need for secure storage of multiple tanks, including nitrogen
- High-wear areas around doors requiring added protection
- A layout that supported daily service use without improvised shelving or unsafe modifications
The customer required a configuration that reflected real plumbing and heating workflows rather than a one-size-fits-all solution.
Project Scope and Goals
The scope of work focused on configuring a plumbing service van built for daily field use, with clear goals:
- Allow interior movement between the cab and cargo area
- Provide secure, trade-specific tank storage
- Improve interior organization for plumbing and heating equipment
- Protect high-contact areas inside the vehicle
- Add exterior access solutions for ladders and materials
This approach aligns with Micorp Custom’s broader fleet van upfitting services, where each vehicle is configured to suit its actual job use.
The Micorp Custom Approach
Walkthrough Partition Configuration
One of the defining features of this build was the installation of a walkthrough partition. Instead of a solid bulkhead, the customer requested the ability to move between the cab and cargo area without exiting the vehicle.
This configuration supported:
- Interior access to tools and equipment
- Movement within the van during service calls
- A layout aligned with daily plumbing and heating workflows
Walkthrough partitions are often selected in plumbing service van builds where interior access is a priority.
Interior Shelving and Tank Storage
The interior of the van was configured to support plumbing and heating equipment.
Key interior features included:
- Heated shelving, suitable for plumbing and HVAC applications
- Multiple tank holders, including vertical storage for nitrogen
- Additional tank storage for plumbing-specific equipment
The shelving and tank holders were arranged to support safe transport and organized access, similar to other commercial fleet vehicle upfitting projects completed by Micorp Custom.
Flooring and Interior Protection
To address durability and high-wear areas, the van was configured with:
- Custom flooring installed without mounting tracks
- Diamond plate protection on both the side door and rear door
These materials were selected to protect areas subject to frequent loading, unloading, and technician movement.
Exterior Equipment
The exterior of the service van was equipped with:
- A three-bar ladder rack system
- Additional tank holders
- Ratchet strap systems for securing equipment
These additions supported ladder transport and material handling common in plumbing and heating service work.
Customization Details
Key customization elements included:
- Walkthrough partition
- Heated shelving system
- Vertical nitrogen tank holder
- Additional tank storage
- Custom flooring without mounting tracks
- Diamond plate protection on side and rear doors

Each component was selected based on specific trade requirements rather than a standard package.
Project Summary
This case study illustrates how Micorp Custom approaches plumbing and HVAC fleet vehicle builds by prioritizing interior access, tank storage, and durability.
With an approximate project scope of $8,000, the service van was configured as a mobile workspace aligned with real-world plumbing and heating operations. Photos of this project are expected to be available and can be referenced alongside other examples in the fleet van upfitting case studies.
Why This Case Study Matters
This project highlights several considerations relevant to plumbing and HVAC fleets:
- Walkthrough partitions can support interior access and workflow needs
- Tank storage requires intentional, trade-specific design
- High-contact areas benefit from additional protective materials
- Standard van packages may not reflect plumbing or heating workflows
Similar principles can be seen in other fleet projects, including oil service fleet vehicle examples and energy service van configurations completed by Micorp Custom.
