Custom Fleet Van Upfitting for Oil Service Applications

Custom Fleet Van Upfitting for Oil Service Applications

Overview

Client: Al’s Oil Service
Industry: Oil & Energy / Home Services
Fleet Type: Service vans and owner-operated work truck
Project Type: Custom fleet van upfitting (multiple vehicles over time)
Services Provided: Commercial van upfitting, flooring replacement, interior shelving, tank storage, ladder racks, truck bed deck system

Al’s Oil Service partnered with Micorp Custom Auto & Truck to adapt service vehicles for oil-related work environments. The relationship began with vehicle service support and expanded into full van upfitting as the need for more durable materials and customized interior layouts became clear.

Over time, multiple vehicles were configured using a similar approach focused on real-world use rather than standardized packages.

The Challenge

Oil service vehicles operate in conditions that differ from many other trade fleets. Al’s Oil Service required vehicle interiors capable of handling oil-related materials, tanks, and equipment without relying on factory-installed components that were not designed for that environment.

One of the primary challenges identified was flooring. Factory rubber mats commonly used in service vans were not suitable for oil exposure, as oil would break down the rubber over time. This created a need for a surface better aligned with oil service applications.

In addition, the service vans required:

  • Organized storage for tools and materials
  • Dedicated tank storage
  • Compatibility with Milwaukee Packout storage systems
  • Exterior solutions for ladder and equipment access

Because Al’s Oil Service operates a smaller fleet and does not replace vehicles frequently, each van needed to be configured for long-term use rather than short-term flexibility.

Project Scope and Goals

The scope of work focused on building fleet vehicles configured for oil service work, not applying a preset layout. Key goals included:

  • Replacing factory flooring with a harder surface better suited for oil exposure
  • Improving interior organization for daily service use
  • Supporting existing tool systems already in use
  • Adding exterior access solutions where needed
  • Providing support for both fleet vans and an owner-operated work truck

This approach aligns with Micorp Custom’s broader fleet van upfitting services, where each build is planned around how the vehicle is actually used.

The Micorp Custom Approach

Flooring Replacement

One of the first modifications made to the service vans was removing the factory rubber flooring. To address oil exposure concerns, a harder flooring surface was installed to better tolerate the materials carried inside the vehicle.

This flooring solution addressed limitations common in oil service fleet vehicle builds, where standard materials may not hold up to daily conditions.

Interior Storage and Organization

Following the flooring replacement, the interior of each service van was configured to support oil service workflows.

Interior features included:

  • Multiple bays of shelving
  • Refrigerant tank holders
  • Storage layouts compatible with Milwaukee Packout systems

Rather than using a generic shelving package, the layout was designed around how tools and materials were accessed during service calls—similar to other commercial van upfitting projects completed by Micorp Custom.

Exterior Equipment

To support equipment transport and rooftop access, ladder rack systems were installed on the service vans. These racks were integrated as part of a complete oil service fleet van configuration, supporting daily operational needs.

Multiple Vehicles Over Time

The work completed for Al’s Oil Service extended beyond a single van. Multiple service vehicles were configured over time using a similar layout approach.

This repeat work reflects a longer-term fleet relationship and aligns with other fleet van upfitting case studies documenting how different industries approach vehicle configuration.

Additional Vehicle Support: Owner-Operated Work Truck

In addition to fleet vans, Micorp Custom also supported an owner-operated Ford F-150 used for work purposes.

The owner identified difficulty related to frequent entry and exit from the truck. To address this, a deck system was introduced and installed in the truck bed to improve accessibility.

This project followed the same principles applied to fleet builds: identify a specific use challenge and configure the vehicle accordingly.

Customization Details

Key customization elements included:

  • Replacement of factory rubber flooring with a harder surface
  • Interior shelving configured across multiple bays
  • Refrigerant tank holders
  • Compatibility with Milwaukee Packout storage systems
  • Ladder rack installations
  • Deck system installation in a Ford F-150

Each component was selected based on application needs rather than a standard package.

Project Summary

This case study demonstrates how Micorp Custom approaches oil service fleet vehicle builds by selecting materials and layouts that reflect real-world conditions.

The relationship expanded over time to include multiple service vans and an owner-operated truck, reinforcing a consistent approach to vehicle configuration.

Photos from this project are available and can be viewed alongside other examples in the fleet vehicle gallery and related case studies.

Why This Case Study Matters

This project highlights several considerations relevant to oil and energy service fleets:

  • Flooring materials should be selected based on actual materials carried
  • Interior layouts are most effective when aligned with existing tool systems
  • Smaller fleets benefit from long-term configurations
  • Fleet partners may also support owner-operated vehicles

Similar considerations are reflected in other projects, including energy service van configurations and plumbing service van builds featured throughout Micorp Custom’s fleet work.
